Nose:
Sharp grainy fruitiness mixed with cloves. Slightly spirity. After warming glass for a minute or so, a malty pocket of resistance appears.
Palate:
Initially caramel blunts out all opposition. Gradually a rather nice if somewhat metallic fruitiness takes command. The malt refuses to make an encore.
Finish:
Suprisingly long and expansive. Hard flinty grain merges with the oak.
Comment:
Hardly likely to sweep up the premium awards, this is all the same a decent everyday whisky. Upping the malt level just a little bit wouldn´t hurt, though.
Rating: 6,5/10

This stuff is absolutely vile. I bought a bottle at the Eurotunnel Terminal at Coquelles. I tried it neat -ugh! Then with a drop of water - no improvement. Then with an ever increasing amount of Coca Cola until I got rid of the revolting brew. Strong diesel oil base flavour with overtones of Harpic and Domestos.
ReplyDeleteWhy didn't you just pour it away and get back to your blobs and cider?
DeleteIt must have been your mouth where the trouble began mate, you,d be better off sticking to shandy gaff.

Gets me wrecked!
ReplyDeleteA tenner at supermarket and I'm surprised how smooth it is for the money. Much nicer than Bells and even neat is very palatable.
ReplyDeleteIts ok when you're on a budget, but better than Bells sorry no way and as it happens bells is my least favorite of the branded whisky's
DeleteFantastic !
ReplyDeleteHad High Commissioner for the first time tonight, and the caramel tang is evident.
